Venues
Lapland is home to some of the world’s most unique wedding venues. Whether you dream of being married under the northern lights, in an igloo, or in a luxury hotel with sweeping views of the fairytale landscape of Lapland.
Kakslauttanen Igloo Village
In this romantic winter grotto, you’ll be spoilt for choice with venues. There’s a wooden chapel, Santa’s House or the glass Tepee. And, from mid-January, there’s usually an Ice Chapel!
Northern Lights House
If you’re looking for an intimate and luxurious venue for your wedding then the Northern Lights House is perfect. With a floor area of 123 square metres, the house features a bedroom suite, a Lappish-themed bedroom, and a wonderful sauna area and, from the terrace, you can admire the views as far away as the gold mines of Kittilä!
Snow Village
With the largest range of accommodation and budget options, the Lainio Snow Village is increasingly popular with couples through to large groups. The accommodation ranges from hotels to log cabins with ice rooms and glass igloos. There’s also a wide range of wedding options and a huge range of activities for you to enjoy.
The Aurora View Kota
Hidden away in the spectacular wilderness at the edge of a frozen lake lies the unique Aurora View wedding venue. Reached by a snowy 2km trail your magical wedding experience unfolds when you arrive at this remote kota.
After the ceremony, you can relax with your guests inside the cosy traditional Lappish Aurora View Kota. Sit by the warm flickering fire and enjoy a celebratory drink and wedding cake. Afterwards, wrap up warm for the return sleigh ride back up the snowy trail.
When to get married
Lapland weddings are at their best from November to April. However please note that, for operational reasons, weddings are not available between 19th and 26th December. And remember to consider the daylight hours when planning your wedding.
What to wear
What you decide to wear is dependent on personal taste. Some bridal parties prefer full snowsuits and hats, whilst others stick to a more traditional wedding gown and shawls.
If you are planning to wear a sleeveless dress, bring a warm shawl with you. Remember temperatures average between -5 and -30 degrees in Lapland during winter. Warm and comfortable footwear is essential; the majority of brides opt for white snow boots, with grooms wearing black.
